***  An email correspondence has been made to the Applicants who have confirmed their presence for the online Interview. ***

For queries, please contact the respective coordinators at pmsc.bio[AT]saha.ac.in, pmsc.exptphys[AT]saha.ac.in, pmsc.phys[AT]saha.ac.in.

Lists of candidates for online interview have been published in our website.

The three lists are in three streams – Theoretical Physics, Experimental Physics and Biophysical Sciences.

The criteria used for making the shortlists are as follows:

Experimental physics: Ranks up to 200 in JEST or NET or ranks up to 100 in GATE along with 60% and above marks in Graduation.

Theoretical physics: Ranks up to 100 in JEST or NET or ranks up to 40 in GATE along with 60% and above marks in Graduation.

Biophysical Sciences : Ranks up to 120 in NET or GATE or ICMR. JGEEBILS scores have also been considered.

Online interviews (in all three streams) for Post-M.Sc. Admission, session 2021-2022
will be held
during 27-30th September, 2021. Lists of candidates for the
interviews will be
published here shortly after September 15, 2021.

Intake
for January 2022

  • Students are invited to join the Ph.D. programme of SINP in Physics and Biophysical Sciences, starting from August 2021 (2021-22 session).
  • The curriculum starts with a one-year pre-Ph.D. course work, called Post-M.Sc. courses.
  • For the Physics stream, Post-M.Sc. courses are chanelled through two streams: Theoretical Physics and Experimental Physics.
Session will start from January 2022.

  • Eligibility

Physics: Master’s degree in Physics.

Biophysical Sciences: Master’s degree in Physics or Chemistry (with Life Science at 10+2 level) or Master’s degree in Life Sciences (with Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or M.Tech. in Biotechnology (with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Life Science at 10+2 level).

Students appearing in the final examinations for their Master’s degree during the current academic session may also apply. However, their admission will be made provisional till they successfully obtain their final year marksheet / Master’s degree certificate in compliance with the cut-off requirement of SINP screening procedure (to be announced later).

  • Application procedure

Eligible students can apply for the programmes only through on-line application (available from mid April 2021)

Further Details will be announced later in this web page.

  • Selection procedure

Screening will be done based on previous academic records of the applicants, their performances in nation-wide screening tests as mentioned below:

For Physics (Experimental and Theoretical):

i) Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
[
JEST candidates of 2021 are encouraged to apply]

ii) GATE in Physics

iii) CSIR/UGC NET for JRF in Physics

For Biophysical Sciences:

i) Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by NCBS-TIFR.

ii) CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR NET for JRF

iii) GATE in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry

IMPORTANT – NO FURTHER WRITTEN ENTRANCE TEST WILL BE CONDUCTED

A shortlist of candidates will be published in this webpage. The shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held “ONLINE” .

The shortlisted candidates will be informed by email also.

Final selection of candidates will be made on the basis of their past performances and interviews.

Selected candidates will be informed by email and also through announcement in this web page.

  • Important Information

Please note that candidates seeking admission to SINP Ph.D. programmes need to apply through on-line application portal with hall ticket number/rank/percentile marks of national level qualification tests like JEST, JGEEBILS, NET, GATE.

On-line application portal will open during mid-April 2021.

  • Fellowships and benefits

The selected students will be admitted to the Post-M.Sc. programme as Junior Research Fellows (JRFs).

Fellowships:

31,000/- p.m. for 1 st two years (JRF)

35,000/- p.m. for subsequent years (SRF)

Tenure: 4 years extendible to the 5th year. Yearly reneweals and 5th year extensions are subject to satisfactory performances.

Contingency, HRA, etc. are as per rules.

There is a possibility of selecting some JRFs carrying extramural funds. Extramural fellowships are awarded by external funding authorities of the Govt of India (UGC, CSIR, DBT and ICMR) to candidates who are selected through NET.

The amount of extramural fellowship, contingency grant, HRA, etc. will be as per CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR rules (SINP will take no responsibility regarding timely arrival of the fellowships, contignecy grants, HRA, etc. for students admitted with extramural funds).

For all selected students, (limited) hostel accommodations will be available.

  • Maximum number of Intakes

Maximum number of intakes with SINP Fellowships: 20

Maximum number of intakes with Extramural Fellowship: 5

Further details will be announced later.
