Abstract        :

Mechanical strain can often generate unique platforms to study collective  behavior of quantum matter. In two dimensions, interestingly, it can often generate pseudo-magnetic fields or Landau levels (LL) for a class of low energy excitations. In this talk, I would present how an unusual collective state of fractionalised Majorana fermions can arise from generic spin interactions when acting on a strained Kitaev magnet. I would show how symmetries and energetic considerations constraints the low energy dynamics in the system leading to formation of a non-Fermi liquid. This study in turn leads to a generalized idea of  creating dipole liquids where constrained dynamics of pairs of hopping fermions leads to unsual fermionic phases of matter. The talk will end with some of the open questions we are presently pursuing.
