Abstract        :

Abstract:  Our understanding of long-time dynamical behavior of a generic many-body quantum system rests on the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) which predicts eventual thermalization for such systems.
However, it has been recently shown, that the presence of a class of quantum states called scars may allow one to escape such thermalization and maintain long-time quantum coherence during the system's evolution. In this colloquium, I shall aim to a provide a pedagogical introduction to this topic taking a one-dimensional chain of Rydberg atom as prototypical system for studying such behavior.
