Research Modulation of protein protein interaction(s) for therapuetic intervention The research done in our laboratory is loosely based on the topic of “Modulation of key protein-protein interactions for therapeutic interventions”. In this regard, our research can be broadly classified into two disease areas namely (a) Infectious Disease & (b) Oncology. Accordingly, we are are interested in structural studies of key (a) antibacterial target proteins and (b) over expressed proteins (in certain kinds of tumor) and their relevant protein-protein interactions. For our purposes we employ a suite of orthogonal biophysical techniques (ITC, DSC, SPR) and spectroscopic methods like Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Furthermore, the interactions of the target proteins are also studied against a limited pool of drug- like molecules. Such an effort is aimed at understanding (a) the molecular mechanism of drug action and (b) the origin of resistance due to target site mutation. We employ standard molecular biology tools for cloning, overexpression of target proteins and appropriate protein purification techniques. Collaborations with small molecule -pharma industry are in place for execution of some of our research objectives. In a closely related objective, we are persuing some collaboration with biopharma industry in characterizing biologics (protein)- based drug products across multiple disease areas.
